Google updates page ranks

Has anyone else noticed that Google updated website page ranks last week (10-30-09)? I manage a dozen sites or so and nearly all of those sites rose in PR, two stayed where they were. Must admit however I did have one site that dropped from a PR3 to a PR2. That’s my fault because I have not updated the site content or gained new inbound links for the site in about six months. I think this is a good example that Google prefers active sites.

To my surprise, I have two new sites that had a zero PR suddenly pop up to a 2 and a 3. I’m a bit baffled by this however; both sites have the same level of on-page SEO. The site that got a PR2 has better and more inbound links than the site that got a PR3 ranking. What’s that all about Google??

Anyone else have a similar experience???

When writing articles, use the Resource Box to boost Page Rank and aid SEO efforts.

Here’s a tip for article marketing. “Use the Resource Box to your advantage”. Most article posting sites will allow you to post 3 anchor text links within the resource box. A few only allow two links however. These anchor text links should be made up of the main keyword used for a given page of your site. Each text link should point to a different page on the site. This has two beneficial factors for your site.

1) A link to your page improves SEO and ultimately aids in boosting Page Rank for that page.

2) The link provides an instant direct link to your site for anyone reading the article.

Getting your site to the first page of Search Engine Results Placement (SERP) is not just about keywords. There is another element search engines are looking for.

Having the correct keywords in the content of your website or blog is important for high Search Engine Results Placement (SERP). While using the proper set of keywords or phrases is good for website traffic flow, it is not the only element for gaining high search engine results placement. There is another keyword related element search engines look for before reporting results to any given search term. This additional element is equally important to proper keywords in boosting your page to the top of the search engine placement? Are you thinking page 1?

Preponderance of Relevant Content

In the court of law sometimes a single fact is not enough to convict someone of a crime. However when there is a fact and it is backed up by other bits of related evidence then a preponderance of evidence is established. You can think of your keywords in this same fashion. That is: a single keyword or phrase is not likely to push your page to the top of the search engine rankings but when combined with related words, your keyword or phrase becomes much more powerful.

To explain this, you should understand that search engines use more than just the search terms when making search engine results placement. Google and other search engines have a record of words that are semantically related to search terms. They also have a record of the words used on your page. Search engines will first identify all pages in their database that match the search terms. They will then compare the word record of the pages to the semantically related words. Pages that use related words in the content are establishing a Preponderance of Relevant Content. Web pages that do this the best are placed highest in the search results. There are a few other factors but this explains how a web page with a low Page Rank can beat a web page with a higher Page Rank in the search results.

Tip
Google provides a free tool at http://labs.google.com/sets. This tool will show you a set of words related to your keywords or phrases. These words can be used in your content to provide a Preponderance of Relevant Content for your site or blog.

When you are creating content for your blog or website use semantically related words to boost the power of your keywords or phrases. Over a period of time, Google will learn that your content just doesn’t contain exact keywords but also is an authority site providing quality, relevant information to your visitors. This after all is what search engines want to do, provide relevant quality information for their users.

Finding valid information on how to add a "Follow Me on Twitter" button to your WordPress blog is a bit difficult. To help with this situation, the steps to add this valuable link are provided here.

Over there on the right, down at the bottom, is a link that invites visitors of this blog to Follow Me on Twitter. Looks simple enough, convenient and easy to use. That is just exactly how I expected it to perform. I just recently added this twitter link and oh boy what a hassle. I thought it was going to be a slam dunk; step 1, step2, step 3, done; and it was – once I found the information on how to do it. That’s where the hassle came in.

I didn’t know how to install the Follow Me on Twitter button to a WordPress blog but my initial thought was there would be a plugin or widget I could import and be done. After doing many Internet searches I could not find a plugin or widget for this, (there may be one I just didn’t find it). What I did find was lots of tips and advise on how to do it. Interesting enough, I also found lots of posts expressing the frustration of completing the installation successfully. Well after stumbling around for about ninety minutes I finally pieced enough information together on how to get-er-done. To save you all the time and hassle I encountered, I’m providing simple and quick instructions on how to install a Follow Me on Twitter Button for your WordPress blog below.

Select the button style that fits your needs. Free “Follow Me on Twitter Buttons” can be found by doing a search on the Internet. Save the button to a location on your hard drive, you have to upload this to the server where your blog is hosted.

Upload the twitter button to your server. From the Admin area of the blog select the Media tab in the left hand side bar. Select the Add New from the drop down to upload the button. Next you have to add a text widget with HTML code to set the proper links for the button.

From the Admin area of the blog, select the Appearance tab in the left hand side bar. Select Widget from the drop down to create a new text Widget. From the Available Widgets list add a Text widget. You will place HTML code in this widget.

After “saving changes” click the edit button of the new Text widget. An edit window will open, copy and paste the following HTML code in the edit space. Be sure to add your data in the proper place in the code.

<a href=”http://www.twitter.com/YOUR TWITTER NAME HERE”> <img src=”http://www.PATH TO YOUR BUTTON File/YOUR BUTTON FILE NAME.xxx” alt=”YOUR ALT TAG INFO” width=”xxx” height=”xx” /></a>

Save your changes.

In my installation the text widget only works as the last widget in the list. I tried moving it to a higher position but all widgets below that position get messed up.

I also added a break tag ( <br> ) at the beginning of the HTML code to get a little seperation from the preceeding widget.

I hope this helps. If you have any comments or useful information in support of this please let us know. Would really like to know if there is indeed a widget for a Follow Me on Twitter link.
